PROJECT INFO
The final year of the ASU Visual Communication Design Program revolves around a campaign of projects relating to a chosen social issue. These projects must not only clearly represent the designated topic, but also tell their own story while still being visually striking. The chosen issue for this campaign was man-made space debris, also known as space junk. As the concluding project, this display informs visitors on the threats space junk poses to society even from beyond the atmosphere. They can find information on what space junk is and why it is happening, why it still affects normal people, and how this issue could grow greater and more severe if ignored. Aside from teaching about an important topic, the exhibit offers guests complimentary keychains to leave with as a memento. In addition, an accompanying book, titled SCRAPBOOK, detailing the production of the display and other projects completed throughout the final year is also available to read.

PROJECT INFO
A comprehensive documentation of the projects completed in the final year of the ASU VCD program. Featured is the process of honing in on the chosen exhibit topic, background on space junk, the construction of the COLLISION CLOCK, various poster designs for promotional and fundraising events, brainstorming sketches, and more. The journey is the focus of the book rather than the destination, as thorough timelines can be found detailing everything from chicken scratch doodles to final renders. This story delves into how projects came into being, and what other paths they could have taken to get there or somewhere completely different. Every step of the fourth year can be found in this book, acting as a time capsule to a time of great growth and learning as a designer.

PROJECT INFO
Capturing the chaos of a growing, global crisis in a clock. This functioning timekeeper draws attention to the consequences of space junk, and serves as a reminder to be wary of what humans leave in outer space. This is the first in a series of projects centering around space junk, culminating in EARTH'S IRON CAGE. The clock's design reflects the suffocating nature of space junk, and how it can inhibit satellites and space vessels. The second hand is a satellite itself, constantly surveying its surroundings. The hour hand is another piece of debris, subtly traversing the cluster and colliding with more waste in the process. As an active clock, one would find it near impossible to learn the time without being reminded of a looming threat to humanity just beyond the outer rim.
